The sandy soils are almost entirely refractory to “Phylloxera vastratix”, where aphid fails to complete its life cycle. Because of this in the Sant’Antioco Island the grapevine is planted “franca di piede”. It cultivates the authentic Carignano grape which spread throughout the “Sulcis” during the Roman age. Planted “franco di piede” and trained as “Latin sapling” system, has got the status of landmark for the Sulcis’ viticulture, producing remarkable results. Today, things have remained unchanged. The grapes, brought in by the 200 associates, come from a total planted area of 300 hectares. The wine management is handled by the consultant Dr. Roberto Muccifuori.
